Father, sons arrested for marijuana cultivation
Police in Mzimba have arrested a man and his two sons for allegedly cultivating marijuana locally known as chamba in the district.
Northern Region Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya identified the three as Lyton Neverson 91, Alufeyo 74 and Lunda 64.
He said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off.
“We have uprooted the Indian hemp which they were cultivating behind their house,” Kalaya said.
He said the 500 kilogrammes herb has been taken to Lunyangwa Research Station in Mzuzu for tests.
“It is good that people now have come to realise that cultivating Indian hemp is a crime and we encourage them to continue helping the police in curbing such crimes,” said Kalaya.
The suspects come from Nthapangwa Lunda Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kampingo Sibande in the district and are currently at Mzimba Police Station pending a court appearance.
