Silver Strikers revived their TNM Super League campaign with a crucial 2-1 win against Mighty Wanderers at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday.

Duncan Nyoni had put the hosts ahead in the 60th minute with a fine goal, but Wanderers equalised in the 77th minute through Muhammad Sulumba.

Then defender Miracle Gabeya’s failure to communicate with his goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa gifted the Central Bankers the points.

Kabwe: We created
many chances

His clearance landed on an advancing Davie to score in the 85th minute and send Silver to fifth on the log table with 11 points from seven games while Wanderers are seventh with 10 points from seven games.

It was a great recovery for Silver who last week went down 1-0 to Blue Eagles.

In a post-match interview, Silver coach Dan Kabwe was relieved, saying they deserved to win.

He said: “We are coming from a loss and the one today was a very tactical game, but we prevailed. We are good to go after collecting three points. We created so many chances, but our problem is scoring. But we won and that’s good going forward.”

The first half did not produce any goals, but both teams had opportunities from setpieces.

On his part, Wanderers assistant coach Joseph Kamwendo faulted his players for conceding the goal.

“We cannot be making such silly mistakes every weekend, especially from senior players. We managed to level, but Miracle Gabeya cost us the game. It was just a matter of communicating with his goalkeeper. This is a second mistake after he cost us the Kamuzu Barracks game last week,” he said.

In another game, , Kamuzu Barracks came from behind to draw 1-1 with Civil Service at Civo Stadium. Kamuzu Barracks are third on the table with 14 points while Civil Service are eighth with 10 points.

Christopher Kumwembe had given Civo the lead in the first half, but Ndaona Daisi’s goal a minute before full-time ensured the two sides shared the spoils.
