EU interacts with Kasungu youths

European Union (EU) Delegation in Malawi on Friday engaged young people in Kasungu District through a series of focus group discussions (FGDs) and cinema sessions to gauge their perceptions and knowledge about EU.

During the sessions, EU programme manager for Sustainable Agriculture Marco Vacirca emphasised the importance of these discussions, noting that they are part of the EU’s effort to better understand how its projects are viewed by young Malawians.

He said: “The primary goal of the FGDs and the cinema sessions is to inform and shape the EU’s communication campaigns. The EU noticed that there is knowledge gap among the youth regarding the various projects the EU and its partners are implementing in Malawi.

“By involving young people directly, the EU hopes to improve awareness and foster a sense of inclusion and participation among the youth population.”

One of the participants in the sessions, Phaniso Kanjeche, encouraged his fellow youth to actively take part in development activities being initiated across the country.

“These forums make young people feel valued as they are given the opportunity to share their views on development projects. I encourage my fellow youth to actively participate in development activities since youth involvement is crucial for the country’s progress,” he said.

The EU’s engagement with youth through FGDs and cinema sessions is part of a broader initiative to reach young people across Malawi.

The discussions and the cinema sessions are scheduled to take place in seven districts, namely Mzimba, Mangochi, Zomba, Mulanje, Dedza, Chikwawa and Kasungu.

The EU support the Malawi Government in various initiatives, including health, education, youth empowerment and safety net programmes.

Ahead of the September 16 2025 General Election, the EU is also supporting National Initiative for Civic Education conduct awareness campaigns through Boma Lathu Project
