Wanderers Reserves eager to maintain unbeaten run

Mighty Wanderers Reserves coach Albert ‘Kika’ Mpinganjira says they are determined to maintain their unbeaten run in ThumbsUp Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Premier Division as round seven of matches rolls into action this weekend.

So far, Wanderers Reserve are the only side yet to taste defeat in the 16-team league and they need to protect the enviable run this Sunday as they host anchors Nsanje United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

“It really feels good to remain unbeaten this far and we are determined to keep that record this weekend. We know it is not easy to keep such a run for a long time but that does not mean it is impossible,” said Mpinganjira.

A win against Nsanje might as well help the Nomads Reserve move up the ladder in the league.

They are currently fifth with 10 points from six games, having registered two wins and four draws.

FCB Nyasa Bullets Reserves lead the pack with 13 points while Ekhaya Reserves are second on 12 points.

Zingwangwa United are third on goal difference following a tie on 11 points with fourth-positioned Immigration FC.

A single point also separates teams from sixth position to the bottom as Chilobwe United and Chilomoni FC are tied on nine points and Liberty FC have eight points.

Nyambadwe United, Mwanza Stars and Ntopwa FC are locked on seven points each while Thondwe FC have six points.

The Boyz FC have five points and Tigers Reserve four points whereas Fomo Reserve and Nsanje United are

at the rock bottom tied at three points.

The tight race has also extended to the scorers chart where Nyambadwe striker Eric Sadia and Thomas Selemani of Chilomoni are tied at five goals apiece.

Yusuf Namtunga of Ekhaya and Christopher Chulu have four goals each.

Nine players have three goals each while 14 others are tied on two goals.

The weekend fixtures start tomorrow with four matches as Immigration FC host Bullets Reserves at Chilomoni Stadium, Mwanza will face Ekhaya at Mwanza Secondary School ground.

Zingwangwa United will meet Ntopwa at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre while Thondwe take on Chilobwe United at Kamuzu Stadium.

On Sunday, Mighty Tigers Reserve face Nyambadwe United at Mpira Stadium while The Boyz play against Fomo Reserve at Chilomoni Stadium.

SRFA chairperson Dyles Kachala yesterday said they are happy with the competitiveness of the league so far.

“This shows that it will not be easy to identify the champions this season,” he said.
