Sound Addicts Live, organisers of Ku Mingoli Bash, say the festival will not take place this year to plan a better and more organised event next year.
Marketing manager Ellie Chasowa said the team wants to “strategically regroup following challenges faced in previous years’.
“While we enjoyed Ku Mingoli 2024, we faced some challenges. So we need ample time to produce a high standard event,” she said.
Chasowa said previous editions proved difficult to execute because local artists were overbooked.
Meanwhile, the organisers have said next year’s edition will take place from August 4 to 8 at Cape Maclear in Mangochi.
They also confirmed that Jamaican reggae artist Andrew Tosh will headline the act. The son of reggae legend Peter Tosh will be performing in Malawi for the first time.
Born Carlos McIntosh in Kingston in Jamaica in1967, he grew up around reggae legends, including his father, Peter Tosh, uncle Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley.
Andrew Tosh has seven albums, two of them Make place for the youth and Legacy: An acoustic tribute to Peter Tosh were nominated for Grammy Award.
Chasowa said they decided to bring in the Jamaican because of the overwhelming support they received when Burning Spear headlined last year’s show.
“It’s never a bad idea to build on previous success. Most shows prioritise Afro-beats since that is what is trending. But the Burning Spear show highlighted just how much reggae music resonates with Malawians. We got a lot of positive feedback,” she said.
Sound Addicts Live is working with Sound System Club Limited from the United Kingdom to help with more international bookings from Jamaica.
The arrangement pleased reggae fan Nathan Mhango who said: “It was great last year when Burning Spear came.Now that we will have another Jamaican reggae artist is super. We are waiting for him.”
The event will include water sports, scuba diving, hiking, and a two days music festival
