She said the training sought to build the capacity of healthcare workers to effectively deliver comprehensive and sensitive sexual and reproductive health information and services in their facilities.

Said Mhango: “We want to ensure that we have well-trained youth-friendly health service providers in health facilities and at the one-stop centre for the youth to get quality and comprehensive services.

“We expect the training to empower the workers with skills to provide an environment where the youth are free to express themselves without fear or doubt.”

A participant from Karonga District Hospital, Dunstan Phiri, described the training as insightful.

He said: “The training provided us with critical knowledge on how best to handle, treat and provide the youth with sexual and reproductive health services.

“We also learned that it is important to ensure that their privacy is upheld while seeking such services.”

On his part, Karonga District Hospital youth-friendly coordinator McLean Theu said he expected the healthcare workers to utilise the knowledge and skills in providing quality services to the youth.

The training attracted participants from Karonga District Hospital, Mwenilondo and Iponga health centres as well as Pamoza Youth Organisation’s One-Stop Centre.

The organisation conducted the training with funding from Breuckmann Foundation and the German Government Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
