Be accountable, perform, Saidi dares parastatals
Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi has challenged chief executive officers (CEOs), board chairpersons and members of State-owned entities to be models of transformation by ensuring that their organisations are thriving.
In his remarks during the opening of the third cohort of the 2026 Corporate Governance Training at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi yesterday, he stressed the need for leadership that delivers efficiency, effectiveness and meaningful change in line with Malawi’s development aspirations.

“I have opened the third cohort of the 2026 Corporate Governance Training for CEOs, board chairpersons and members of parastatals. What we want is for them to help manage institutions in a better way,” said Saidi.
He emphasised the importance of strong oversight, good governance, transparency and accountability, warning against misuse of public resources.
“We do not want waste of resources. Resources must be used for their intended purpose,” said Saidi.
He underscored government’s expectation for integrity-driven leadership, urging institutions to maximise revenue collection and align performance with national strategies.
Saidi also challenged board members to uphold professionalism and diligently scrutinise budgets and operations to safeguard public funds from misuse.
Malawi School of Government (MSG) board chairperson Professor Lewis Dzimbiri said the training is designed to equip participants—many of whom are new in their roles—with essential leadership and management skills that are crucial in their roles.
“This training is critical as it clarifies roles, strengthens capacity and promotes the separation of powers necessary for effective governance,” he said.
The training was held under the theme ‘Strengthening economic recovery and effective performance through enhanced corporate governance in statutory corporations’.
