SKC Charity Golf raises K246m
The Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) Foundation Charity Golf Tournament played at the Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday has so far raised K246 million with more pledges coming in.
The charity, established in memory of the departed vice-president by his widow, Mary, is raising funds to procure dialysis machines and monitors for strategic public hospitals.
In her remarks, she thanked companies, organisations and individuals, who contributed towards the event .
With emotion, Mary said: “The fundraising golf has been very successful. We have seen a huge turnout. It’s wonderful to see that Dr Saulos Chilima is still loved. Our target for this golf was to raise K346 million, but so far we have raised K246 million.”
“But we are still receiving pledges and donations. We have seen big brands in the country supporting us. We really are grateful for all those who supported the cause.
“Today we gathered here to honour the life and legacy of Dr Saulos Chilima, a man of immense energy, of conviction and a man who believed deeply in service to Malawians. His passing was sudden, it was tragic and it left a deep pain that still echoes in our house.
“While we cannot bring him back, what he left behind is a call to serve. That is why the SKC Foundation was born,”
The event’s organising committee chairperson Brian Coombes also thanked various sponsors, saying their financial assistance will go a long way in impacting Malawians positively.
He also paid an emotional and touching eulogy to his departed friend.
