Miss Malawi expands her digital footprint

In a digital age where online presence is becoming an essential part of personal branding, advocacy and public engagement, Miss Malawi Thandie Chisi has taken a new step by launching her official website. The platform is designed to bring together her journey, projects and advocacy work in one place while creating a direct connection with people across Malawi and beyond. Our Staff Reporter, WANTWA MWAMLIMA, caught up with the beauty queen to learn more about the project. Excerpts; Q: What inspired you to launch a website at this point in your tenure as Miss Malawi?

Chisi: It is a platform
for leadership.

A: The world has become increasingly digital and today your online presence is as important as your presence in the communities you serve. As Miss Malawi, I have had the privilege of engaging with different people, organisations and communities across the country. I quickly realised that while many of these moments are shared on social media, they often disappear within hours or days.

I wanted to create something more permanent. A website gives me the opportunity to document my journey, tell my story in my own voice and create a trusted source where people can learn about my work, my values and the causes I champion. It allows me to shape my own narrative rather than have it shaped for me.

More importantly, I want it to be a place where every Malawian, and anyone around the world, can connect with the woman behind the crown. Whether someone wants to learn about my advocacy, partner with me or simply follow my journey, they now have a home where that story lives.

Q: How will the website help you advance your advocacy work?

A: Advocacy is most effective when people can easily access information, understand the vision and find ways to become part of it. The website helps me achieve exactly that.

It serves as the digital headquarters for my advocacy work, particularly the Sustainable Fashion and Women Empowerment Initiative. It brings together our projects, impact stories, milestones and future ambitions in one place, making it easier for supporters, development partners, businesses and the public to engage with our mission.

It also strengthens our visibility beyond social media. When people search for sustainable fashion, women’s empowerment or my work as Miss Malawi, the website makes that information discoverable and accessible. In that sense, it becomes more than a communication platform. It becomes an engine for collaboration, education and long-term impact.

Q: How do you want to reach your audiences and what impact do you want them to see, especially as Miss Malawi?

A: I believe meaningful communication happens when you meet people where they are. That means continuing to engage through social media, traditional media, community outreach, schools, corporate partnerships and now through my website.

Each platform serves a different purpose. Social media allows for immediate conversations, while the website provides depth, context and credibility. Together, they create a more complete picture of my work and my purpose.

As Miss Malawi, I want people to see that the crown is not simply about appearances. It is a platform for leadership, service and influence. I hope young women see possibility. I hope communities see partnership. I hope organisations see someone who is committed to creating measurable social impact. If my journey inspires even one person to believe in their own potential or to invest in changing someone else’s life, then I believe I am fulfilling my responsibility.

Q: Beyond the website, what other projects or initiatives should Malawians expect from you?

A: My focus remains on creating an impact that outlives my reign. One of my biggest priorities is expanding the Sustainable Fashion and Women Empowerment Initiative into a truly national movement that equips more women and young people with practical skills, creates opportunities for economic empowerment and promotes sustainable livelihoods.

Beyond my initiative, I am also working on building stronger partnerships with the private sector, development organisations and institutions that share a vision for empowering communities. I believe collaboration is one of the most powerful tools for creating lasting change.

Malawians should expect to see more community engagements, more advocacy around women’s empowerment, youth development and sustainability, and initiatives that demonstrate that leadership is measured not by the title you hold, but by the lives you transform. My goal is to ensure that when people look back at my tenure as Miss Malawi, they remember it not only for the crown, but for the impact.
