Malawi Commonwealth Games Association and Malawi National Council of Sports have hailed Team Malawi athletes for not disappearing after competing at the 2026 Glasgow event in Scotland.
The Games run from July 23 to August 2.
International media outlets reported yesterday that Police Scotland has revealed that there are several athletes that are unaccounted for after conclusion of the Games.

A Scottish Police spokesperson was quoted by BBC yesterday as having said: “Inquiries are ongoing
to assess the circumstances and early engagement is taking place with the Home Office.”
Malawi Commonwealth Games Association vice-president Francis Kakhuta Banda said in an interview yesterday that all Team Malawi members returned home.
“Our members displayed a true Malawian spirit by not disappearing and this demonstrates sheer discipline,” he said. “Our athletes’ behaviour was also exceptional and there were no issues raised against them. For this, they need to be commended.”
Sports Council board chairperson Jim Kalua said Team Malawi members displayed strong self-control and followed the rules.
“That we did not have any of our members being tempted to remain behind illegally shows a high sense of self-discipline,” he said.
Team Malawi participated in five codes namely netball, boxing, swimming, athletics and judo and had over 20 athletes, but returned without winning a medal.
However, Athlete Asimenye Simwaka and boxer Elias Bonzoecame close to a podium finish after reaching the semi-finls and quarter-finals, respectively.
