CDF projects raise hopes for Kasungu communities

People in Kasungu District have expressed hope that the rollout of development projects under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will improve access to roads, water, health services and education.

The projects include road rehabilitation, construction of health facilities and teachers’ houses, provision of piped water and boreholes in Kasungu North East and Kasungu North West constituencies.

In Kasungu North East, the CDF-funded projects include the construction of a house for Traditional Authority Kapichira, a laboratory at Kapelura Health Centre and rehabilitation of the Nyambo-Kankhumbi Road.

Speaking during the launch of the projects at Kapichira, Kasungu district commissioner Lawford Palani urged communities to monitor the projects to ensure that they are implemented according to the required standards.

“Traditional leaders should be vigilant in protecting the resources meant for the development project,” he said.

T/A Kapichira said the projects were responding to some of the long-standing challenges facing communities in the area, including poor roads, inadequate teachers’ houses and limited access to water.

Kasungu North East legislator Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima (Malawi Congress Party-MCP)

said communities waited for a long time to see tangible results from CDF.

She urged government to speed up the implementation of other projects, particularly road works, before the rainy season.

While in Kasungu North West, legislator Alex Felix Nkhoma (MCP) said the rehabilitation a road will improve mobility in the area.

He said he was pleased that projects requested by communities were now beginning to materialise
