MPC hails expanding role of postal services
Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC) says postal services are key in connecting people, facilitating communication and supporting global trade.
MPC public relations officer Sellina Mwamtobe, speaking on Friday in Blantyre during World Post Day commemorations, said international collaboration among postal service providers remains critical to ensuring seamless connectivity for individuals and businesses worldwide.

She said MPC is responding to changing customer needs by expanding beyond traditional mail services to include retail and financial solutions through partnerships with commercial banks.
Said Mwamtobe: “At Malawi Posts Corporation, we operate about 180 postal outlets across the country.
“While we initially focused on mail delivery, technological advancements and changing customer demands have pushed us to diversify our services.”
She said that MPC now offers a range of solutions aimed at improving convenience and accessibility for customers.
“For corporate clients, we provide door-to-door delivery services. Customers can schedule collection of consignments, which are then delivered to their preferred destinations,” said Mwamtobe.
She said the corporation’s services are especially beneficial to people in remote areas by reducing travel costs and improving access to essential services.
“For example, we collect bills on behalf of Central Region Water Board, enabling customers to make payments at their nearest post office instead of travelling long distances,” she said.
One of the customers, Wellington Nkombezi, described MPC’s services as reliable and convenient.
“Over the years, I have relied on postal services and have not been disappointed,” he said.
World Post Day is commemorated annually on October 9. The day was celebrated under the theme ‘One postal network, infinite possibilities’.
