Airborne Reangers beat Mau Mau 6-2 on Thursday to increase their lead at the top of the K6 million Chipiku and Central Region Football League (CRFL) to 70 points.

The victory on Thursday was the second in two days after they beat Namitete Rangers 2-1 on New Year.

Former Epac FC striker Alex Nkhwazi had a brace, so too Rosicky Ibrahim while Hendrix Misinde and Charles Mhango scored one each in the demolition of Mau Mau.

The Salima soldiers have opened up a 10-point gap over second-placed Support Battalion.

Airborne need to win three of their six remaining games to book promotion to the Super League.

The soldiers’coach, Henry Khembo, expressed optimism that they will play in the Super League next season.

“I do not think we can lose three games. It is not possible as we are in top form. But we won’t relax until it is done. It will be suicide to relax. We will take each game as a final,” said Khembo.

Today, Airborne host Lilongwe-based Msundwe United while tomorrow they will host Nkhotakota’s Alinafe Medicals.

According to CRFL fixtures secretary Frank Kalilombe, the season is expected to wrap up on January 19.

“We have intensified mid-week games, taking advantage of the school holiday,” said Kalilombe.
