New Airtel Malawi managing director Heiko Shlittke says he wants to bring efficiency at the company as well as providing ‘impeccable’ mobile telecommunications services across the country.

Shlittke has also vowed to improve data usage by Airtel subscribers in the country as one of his immediate tasks at Airtel Malawi.

“Energy is our main driver of cost and my immediate task is to work hard to achieve higher efficiency rate,” said Shlittke in an interview in Lilongwe.

He said as a frontline investor, the company will continue developing its infrastructure across the country.

Shlittke said the company remains committed to innovation in the telecommunications sector and deliver seamless services.

Commenting on the telecommunication sector in general, he noted that the sector still remains less penetrated compared to other countries where the company is operating.

“Malawi is less penetrated comparatively with other countries, say Burkina Faso, and other countries in the northern Africa which have similar demographics of about 18 million people like Malawi,” he said.
