Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) has said all is set for the continental Africa Pool Association (Aapa) Championship to be staged at Robin’s Park in Blantyre from tomorrow to Saturday.

Mapa general secretary Saulos Thindwa said nine visiting teams are expected to arrive bytomorrow. Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania were expected to arrive later yesterday while Uganda, Ghana and DR Congo are expected today.

“South Africa and Lesotho will arrive on Wednesday, but we are yet to get Zimbabwe’s final travel schedule. However, all the 10 expected teams have confirmed participation,” said Thindwa.

He also said the opening ceremony is slated for tomorrow morning and the guest of honour will be principal secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Justin Saidi.

Mapa has since set gate charges for games that start soon after the opening ceremony and fans will pay K500 (US$1.3) each during both opening and closing ceremonies while all other games will attract K200 per head.

“The opening and closing ceremonies are high-profile events which will feature exciting activities to mark the Malawi 2013 Aapa Championship. As such we would want to control the number of people entering the hall for these events,” said Thindwa.

He appealed to sports-loving Malawians to patronise the games and offer moral support to their teams.

Meanwhile, Malawi national pool coach Ishad Omar has dropped four players to remain with five first team players and three reserves in the men’s category as required by Aapa. No lady player has been dropped.
