Robert Ng’ambi once again played an influential midfield role for Platinum Stars as they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 to qualify for Telkom Knockout semi-final on Saturday in Pretoria, South Africa.

Ng’ambi came close to putting his name on the scoresheet, but he dragged his shot over the bar. Still Stars won it through Siphelele Mthembu and Mogakolodi Ngele’s goals that cancelled out Sundowns’ Dove Wome’s opener.

“Well done to the boys. We planned and worked hard for this game. Our plan worked well. I am happy with the boys, they really displayed a good performance,” Stars coach Allan Freese told the press in a post-match interview with SuperSport television.

Stars await the winner of other quarter-final matches to know their next opponents. But in another last eight match played on Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs also advanced to the last four band after seeing off Free State Stars 3-1 on post-match penalties.

Stars seem destined for more cup glory after winning the MTN8 Cup against Orlando Pirates in Durban recently.

In Namibia, Chikondi Likwemba, who is on loan from Silver Strikers, scored as his Orlando Pirates of Namibia won their league opener 4-1 against Africa Stars on Friday night.
