Police in Lilongwe have arrested three men suspected to have robbed Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Atupele Muluzi’s private residence in Area 9 in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula confirmed the arrests.

But police could not disclose names of the three suspects for fear of jeopardising investigations.

However, Dandaula said the three were arrested after a tip-off from the public on the whereabouts of the suspects.

He said: “We followed the lead and eventually found the three suspects walking freely in the streets of Lilongwe where we managed to arrest them.”

The suspects are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Some police investigators are currently in Mozambique where the stolen items were allegedly sold.

On Friday last week, a gang of 12 broke into the minister’s house through a hole they drilled in the perimeter fence in the backyard and made their way into the house. They also broke into the minister’s bedroom where they demanded cash and took away electronic gadgets and other valuables.
