Amang’anja Association last Saturday donated food and non-food items to 300 flood victims currently seeking shelter at Khungubwe Evacuation Centre in Traditional Authority (T/A) Ngowe in Chikwawa.

The donation was valued at K1 million and was sourced from members’ contributions.

FloodsChairperson for the association in the Central Region, Wesley Tsoka, said they made the donation in response to President Peter Mutharika’s call to people of goodwill to support the victims of natural disasters.

“For a start, we donated Likuni Phala, sugar, maize flour and solar unit to light the camp. Funds permitting, we intend to reach out to the other

remainining districts in order to ease the suffering in a small way,” said Tsoka.

He also took advantage of the donation to appeal to the victims to consider moving upland to avoid future calamities.

T/A Ngowe commended the cultural grouping for the assistance, saying it will go a long way in alleviating suffering among flood victims.

He, however, asked more organisations to come forward with more support, saying “the devastation is quite huge; and, therefore demanding more resources”.
