Head of the African Union observer mission to Zimbabwe Olusegun Obasanjo is hopeful for a credible outcome of the harmonised elections currently under-way.

At an impromptu media briefing after touring some polling centers in the capital Harare, the former Nigerian President said the process “has so far been promising even with a few hitches reported in some parts.”

“In a human organisation like this one, you don’t expect 100 percent perfection. We just hope that imperfection doesn’t alter the will of the people,” Obasanjo told the inquisitive press.

He formed his opinion largely from a few personal tours and reports from his 60-man team deployed throughout Zimbabwe.

“So far we have had reports from Harare, Bulawayo and the Matebeleland and from what we have seen, I am hopeful for a credible outcome,” he said.

So far, there have been reports of some voters missing on the voters register but Obasanjo said he has been assured by the Registrar General Thobayiwa Mudede of a solution to the mishap.
