Have their next season’s salaries secured: Bullets players

Big Bullets have secured a monthly sponsorship of K3 million to cater for players’ salaries for next season, The Nation has leant.

The club’s general secretary Harold Fote confirmed the sponsorship in an interview on Monday, saying the commitment is for the whole season. But Fote refused to disclose identities of the good Samaritan whom he said has already started helping them.

“We budgeted K74 million to cater for expenses for the league and domestic cup games this season. We wrote several companies seeking segmented sponsorship. We are glad to announce that we have secured a commitment for K3 million monthly sponsorship to cater for salaries of the players,” Fote said yesterday.

The next Super League season will run from April 18 to December 15, according to a calendar released by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Wednesday.

“We are working hard to secure the remaining sponsorship so as to have a smooth league. It is a big project that we embarked on, but we are confident of realising our set goals,” said Fote.

He said the K74 million does not include the K180 million the team needs to participate in the CAF championship games that starts next month.

On the CAF budget, Fote said they hope to have K30 million by next week from the commitment they have received from companies and well-wishers.

“It is unfortunate that FAM president [Walter Nyamilandu] doubted our capability to the extent that he went to the media doubting our situation. I can assure you that we will have K30 million by next week and after that other companies are coming in. We cannot start such a dream only to fail,” he said.
