Sulu: Malawian ladies are mindful of culture

A show scheduled to start at 8pm was prolonged up until 2am when the long-awaited guests, ex-Big Brother Africa housemate Sulu alongside and Malawi’s Afro R‘n’B sensation Maskal, appeared on stage and mesmerised revellers leaving them longing for more at Blue Elephant in Blantyre on Saturday night.

The delay forced the organisers to limit the artists’ performances to only three songs apiece which left patrons screaming in despair as they demanded more from their favourite artists.

In an interview, Sulu hailed Blantyre revellers for patronising the show and making it as live as it was.

He said he did not expect such a huge welcome.

“Unlike in Lilongwe, I have had more fun here in Blantyre. The audience was live and the ladies were active and made me feel welcome,” he said.

Added Sulu: “One thing I have noticed is that Malawian ladies are reserved. Proof to this was the show I had in Lilongwe. There is a true representation of African women here in Malawi and a clear indication that Malawian ladies are mindful about culture.”

The show was also scheduled to be patronised by South African house star MrEckza and Zambian female hip hop icon Bernice, but both did not show up.

Organiser of the event DJ Cool said the stars did not make it because one had lost a sister while the other had passport problems.

Sulu revealed that he was in the country as part of his African tour. So far, he has toured Botswana, Namibia, Ghana and South Africa.

The Zambian disclosed that he has undetaken the tour not to make money but to meet his fans and the love he has received so far has made the tour more interesting than he had imagined.

Besides his music career, Sulu is a businessman and is currently working on a feature movie in which he plays a taxi driver. The movie is expected to be out early next year.
