Bilal Trust has donated medical equipment worth K60 million (about $120 000) to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe and Nkhotakota and Salima district hospitals.
The donation included theatre equipment, transport/handling stretchers and ventilators. There are also multipurpose treatment and examination stretchers, trolleys, dentist chairs, patient examination cart, motorised intensive care unit (ICU) beds, video imaging chairs, dialysis patient couches, drug trolleys, wheelchairs, blankets, physiotherapy equipment and many more.
The items were sourced from National Police Aid and Convoy of Nottinghamshire, according to Bilal Trust general secretary Khalid Hussein.
“The equipment arrived last month. We just started distributing it on Tuesday. The reason we chose the three hospitals is because we have worked with them before,” said Hussein on Tuesday.
Bilal Trust coordinator Nazir Choonar said the donation is not limited to hospitals as it has also been extended to some schools.
He said: “We are donating various school-related equipment to eight schools in Nkhotakota, four schools in Lilongwe and another eight schools in Salima. These are the districts where we carry out most of our charity works.”
