Bullets gun for win over Ugandan champions

Nyasa Big Bullets assistant coach Peter Mponda says getting maximum points against Uganda champions Express FC is a must if they are to progress to the knockout stage of the 2021 Cecafa Kagame Interclub Cup.

He said this in an interview from Tanzania after drawing against Young Africans (Yanga) in the opening Group A match.

Said Mponda: “We are coming from a game where we collected a point. It was a good result. We wish we could have collected maximum points, but getting a point from Yanga is encouraging. The guys are positive.

“The guys feel they have to go for a kill tomorrow to get maximum points so that going into the last game [against Atlabara] we should not be under pressure. So, we need to win at all cost to make life easier for ourselves.”

Bullets got positive reviews from East Africa media after taking the game to Tanzanian Premier League giants to draw 1-1.

However, Mponda said they are not underrating Express FC who beat South Sudan’s Atlabara 1-0 on Monday.

He said: “We saw them on Monday playing against Atlabara of South Sudan. They dominated. They have powerful guys. They are also comfortable on the ball. They have got speedy guys. But equally, we also have strong guys. We also have players who have got speed. Technically, we have better players than them. I believe it is going to be a good game.

“The preparations are going on well for tomorrow’s match. On Tuesday we went to loosen up a little bit. Today we tried to rectify the mistakes noted in the first match [against Yanga].”

In Group B matches, defending champions Kampala Capital City Authority lost 2-0 to Azam at the Azam Sports Complex, Chamazi on Monday.

Burundi’s Messager Ngozi and Zanzibar’s KMKM shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
