FCB Nyasa Bullets have moved up to second on the TNM Super League log table after a 2-0 victory over Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The defending champions tie with Hammers at 13 points, but they have a better goal difference.

Chawanangwa Gumbo scored the opener for Bullets six minutes into the match after receiving a pass from Nigerian Babatunde Adepoju who was given acres of space on the left flank.

Then the 2023 TNM Super League player of the season midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu hit the second straight from a corner kick in the 64th minute to seal Bullets’ victory.

The outcome was a relief for Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa, having dropped eight points in draws against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Dedza Dynamos, Mighty Tigers and Mafco.

However, he was not amused with some blunders his defenders committed at the back.

He said: “We need to respect our opponents. Remember that’s a team that was in second position. But the good thing is we settled well and got the goals that we needed.”

Hammers coach Elias Chirambo conceded defeat, but said they were denied a clear penalty in the first half.

“My boys were frustrated. But all in all it was a good game. We have lost. It’s part of the game.”

In other matches on Saturday, Creck Sporting Club returned to winning ways after defeating Fomo FC 1-0 at Civo Stadium.

Stain Patrick gave the hosts the victory through his 36th minute strike.

The McDonald Mtetemera-led outfit has moved up three places to eighth with 10 points from seven matches.

“After failing to collect full points in the last two matches, it was good to win. It wasn’t easy,” the coach said.

Kamuzu Barracks and Moyale Barracks played out a goalless draw at Aubrey Dimba Stadium.

KB are now fifth while Moyale are seventh.
