Former Mozambique-based midfielder Rafiq Mussa snatched a late equaliser for Bvumbwe Research against FC Surestream as defeat looked in a thrilling top-of-the-table Southern Region Football League (SRFL) clash at Surestream Stadium in Chilomoni Township, Blantyre.
Following the 1-1 draw, Bvumbwe still top the table with 42 points from 19 games, just a point ahead of Surestream who remain on second position.
Blessings Phiri gave Surestream a first-half lead and just when it appeared like they would topple the Researchers from the table, Mussa grabbed the equaliser and relief was the prevalent emotion in Bvumbwe’s camp just as their coach Bob Mpinganjira.
“It was a tough game and we were lucky to get a late equaliser, but all in all I think a draw was a fitting result. Otherwise, it was a good game,” said Mpinganjira.
Surestream technical director Peter Mponda said they did not have an ounce of luck.
“It was a tight game, but in all fairness, I think we had an edge, but we failed to cling on to the one-goal lead and we paid dearly in the end.
This afternoon, Surestream host third-placed Max Bullets at Surestream Stadium.
Max Bullets, who were held to a barren draw by McDonald Mtetemera’s Prison United on the same afternoon, also have 41 points.
In other results, Zomba United were also held to a goalless draw by Changalume, while Luchenza Tea Stars edged Nyasa United 2-1. n
