The Campaign for Female Education (Camfed) has advised girls in the country to stay in school to avoid early marriages and teenage pregnancy.

Camfed programme coordinator Danken Mambala was speaking at St Michael’s Girls Secondary School in Mangochi on Friday when he closed a week-long girls’ conference.

“The painful reality with the Malawi context is that the majority of girls are missing out on education due to early marriages and pregnancy.

“With this conference, we have reached out to 100 girls within Mangochi and more beyond to raise awareness on the girl’s right to education and that marriage ought to wait,” he said.

During the conference, girls were drilled in how to overcome daily challenges and how to attain goals, among others.
