Carlsberg Cup round of 16 complete

The Carlsberg Cup round of 16 is now complete following the end of the national preliminary round stage on Thursday when Fisd Wizards and Master Security FC were shown exit doors.

Wizards became the fourth TNM Super League side to be booted out of the competition after suffering a 0-1 defeat to Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Premier League outfit Chilumba Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium while Master Security were trampled upon 2-0 by OP FC.

This means Wizards, Mzuni FC, Epac FC and Airborne Rangers are the Super League sides that have been beaten by lower -league sides.

Former Big Bullets midfielder Komani Msiska scored the lone goal for Chilumba in the first five minutes of the match to send the Wizards packing and remind the local soccer fraternity that he is still around.

Chilumba and OP FC have joined Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Silver Reserves, Kamuzu Barracks, Dedza Young Soccer Stars, Ndirande Icons and Support Battalion in the round of 16 alongside seeded outfits Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, Mafco, Blue Eagles, Red Lions, Azam Tigers, Moyale Barracks and Civo United.

Round of 16 games will be played between July 16 and August 2. The quarter-finals will be played between August 2 and 3 while the semi-finals will be conducted between August 14 and 15. The finals are expected on August 29.

The round of 16 fixtures are as follows: Red Lions vs Moyale Barracks, Chilumba Barracks vs Wanderers, Bullets vs Silver Reserves, Silver vs OP FC, Ndirande Icons vs Kamuzu Barracks, Support Battalion vs Civo United, Azam Tigers vs Dedza Young Soccer Stars, Blue Eagles vs Mafco.
