Catholics in Chinyonga, Blantyre, will next Sunday celebrate St. Anthony Day in honour of its patron.

The church’s liturgy chairperson Goodnews Mphande said this was an important day for Catholics to relive and meditate on the life of their patron St. Anthony of Padua, Portugal.

“Each Catholic Church has a patron saint. Ours is St. Anthony. He was born in 1195 AD and was one of the most famous disciples of St. Francis of Assisi,” said Mphande.

He said the Sunday celebrations would also mark the church’s ninth anniversary of congregating at their building.

Mphande said among the day’s activities will be celebration of Holy Mass by Archbishop Thomas Msusa; to be followed by a number of activities such as dances, poem recitals and various sports

According to Mphande, St. Anthony of Padua was a famous preacher and miracle worker; who was known throughout the world for his generosity and devotion to the study and practice of piety in the Monastery at Coimbra (Portugal).
