Cezobal gets sponsorship

The Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) has secured AHL Commodities Exchange sponsorship for a women’s tournament.

AHL Commodities Exchange head of operations Davis Manyenje Saturday night gave the league K150 000 (about $500) at a function held at African Bible College in Lilongwe.

“We decided to sponsor the women’s tournament following a request from Cezobal. As a new company we believe sports disciplines that have been considered minority have the potential to grow. Apart from the misconception that basketball is a minority sport, you find that women categories are less sponsored,” said Manyenje.

Cezobal chairperson Kingsley Gwaza said the sponsorship is timely, considering that the country’s economy is not in good shape.

“In such times, it is not easy to find a sponsor. We have been to several companies asking for sponsorship, but we did not succeed. This sponsorship marks the beginning of a new chapter,” said Gwaza.

Cezobal has four leagues: men’s; women’s; junior and veterans and Gwaza said, currently, juniors and the women are sponsored by Game Street and AHL Commodities respectively.
