Zaluso Arts, a Chancellor College student organisation, has developed a website for Malawian visual arts in a project titled ‘Students with Dreams’ which is being sponsored and supported by Arts and Globe Health Centre Africa.

The website, www.zaluso.com, will be used as a catalogue for Malawian visual art works and will include profiles of artists and reviews for the artists.

The website is expected to be officially launched at The Great Hall at the campus on August 8.

In an interview with On the Arts, public relations secretary for the organisation Eric Mzungu said they developed the website to advocate a more positive attitude towards visual arts in the country.

“It will also be a platform for local artists to exhibit their works to their audiences and prospective buyers, and thereby giving artist a chance at global recognition”

Mzungu said they are willing to reach out to as many people as possible because they believe that art can be a good way to sell Malawian culture and complement the agricultural sector which the country economically relies on.

“We have put measures to ensure sustainability of the project. We have paid members and the money that they use for membership is that which will be used for running of the site. We are also planning to have adverts ion the website which should to bring some revenue for the project,” said Mzungu.

He appealed to the corporate world for support.

“There is more that is still needed for this project to be a success. We are asking companies to come forward and support this project whether by placing adverts on the site or giving financial and technical support,” said Mzungu.

The project, which is a brainchild of fine arts students, is open to all students.
