Chitedze protests Nomads move

Midfielder Timothy Chitedze, who is one of the senior players deemed to be excess baggage by Mighty Wanderers, has protested the decision to be relegated to their reserve side.

Chitedze, who was a regular, has expressed reservations on the move, saying he will have to consult his family members.

Meanwhile, the number of players that will either be attached to the reserve team or be released altogether, has risen to nine with the inclusion of another regular Diverson Chilemba who will be loaned out to Azam Tigers.

The club’s general secretary Mike Butao said the players will either be loaned out or relegated to their reserve side.

Others are Bongani Zulu, Edward Chilalika, Omega Mhone, Felix Kamwendo, Tawonga Chingati, Develious Mwale and William Abdullah.

The move comes after the Nomads experienced one of their worst runs ever in the first-round of the top-flight Super League in which they anchored the table for sometime before moving up four places after winning their last two games.

Butao said: “The decision has been made based on either slump of form or conduct. We have not fired them and if they pick up, we’ll take them back, they are still our players.”

However, the Nomads spokesperson said the proposed list could change and some might remain depending on the outcome of their rebuilding drive.

Butao also said they have already identified teams for some players such as Chilemba (Tigers), Zulu (Evirom) and Mhone (Karonga United).

“We are also planning to strengthen the team in our quest to retain the Standard Bank Cup title and ahead of the second-round of the TNM Super League by signing some players on loan or permanently,” he said.
