Chiukepo loaned to Platinum Stars
Msowoya is reported to have accepted a pay cut to move to the Rustenburg-based side in search of game time.
The Flames hitman has been starved of action at Pirates where he is yet to play a competitive game this season.
“I am happy that Pirates have agreed to release me and I will work hard at Platinum to get game time as I am not guaranteed of game time there. Once I get the opportunity to play I will utilise it. I promise to reward Platinum for the trust they have shown in my capabilities,” said Chiukepo.
Pirates and agent Felix Sapao, who facilitated Msowoya’s move confirmed the development on Tuesday.
“Orlando Pirates have agreed to release Lucas Thwala, Chiukepo Msowoya and Patrick Malokase to Platinum Stars for the rest of the season.
“The trio have seen little game time since the arrival of Julio Leal. This move is considered a win-win as the players will gain regular game time at their new club,” the club wrote on its official website.
On his Facebook page Sapao wrote:” Chiukepo Msowoya will be joining Platinum Stars on loan. He has agreed to a salary cut, but this is a good development for him as he seeks game time. I have been in Rustenburg for two weeks now and this was agreed yesterday [Monday].”
Msowoya will join compatriot Robert Ng’ambi who is a regular in the Owen da Gama-coached side.
Flames coach Kinnah Phiri said the development is good for the Flames as an inactive Msowoya was costly to the Flames.
“Ever since he moved to Pirates, he has not been that efficient for the Flames as he was when he was in Mozambique due to lack of game time. This is timely as we want him to be in good shape before we face Chad next month,” said Kinnah.
Initially, Pirates indicated that Msowoya was not going anywhere. His move is reported to have been influenced by the arrival of former Arsenal, Fulham, Westham and Portugal international Louis Boa Morte.
Boa Morte has signed an 18-month contract with Pirates barely six months after Pirates also signed another former English Premier League big-name in striker Benni McCarthy. The two were teammates at Westham United.
Msowoya, who has a year and a half remaining on his Pirates contract, has played 11 competitive games since joining the team in July 2010 and has scored two goals.
