The Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture says creation of civic education hubs will enhance mindset change among citizens.

The ministry’s director of civic education Lawrence Useni said this on Friday in Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu during the launch of a civic education hub in the district.

He said: “This is a government structure comprising stakeholders from the civil society and government aimed at imparting knowledge to people and influencing mindset change to achieve the long-term development strategy, the Malawi 2063.

“We will continue to support the hubs with materials and trainings to enable them to operate effectively in their designated areas.”

Useni said they have established 10 hubs in 10 districts across the country considering that mindset change is one of enablers in the Malawi 2063, the country’s long-term development strategy.

“This is the 10th hub and we are yet to launch 18 more in the remaining districts,” he said.

Inkosi Kwataine commended government for the initiative.

He said: “With mindset change, it will be easier for people to embrace a hardworking spirit to develop their areas.

“Again, it will be simple for people to understand the importance of following preventive health measures.”

Ntcheu District Council spokesperson Maston Kaiya said the initiative will equip people with information on health matters and projects.

“We will provide resources for the hub through a committee that will be established with relevant stakeholders to ensure its sustainability,” he said.

The ministry also established civic hubs in Nsanje, Phalombe, Machinga, Zomba, Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay and Karonga.
