Clement Kafwafwa made captain in Denmark
Flames towering defender Clement Kafwafwa is working his way up in Denmark with his club Lolland Falster Alliance’s (LFA) promotion to the second tier league matched by his elevation to the captaincy.
“I feature either as a holding midfielder or a central defender and I scored from a corner last week. I was made captain after our promotion to the first division which is a rung away from the Super League,†said Kafwafwa in a telephone interview on Wednesday.

The defender for the defunct MDC United was reacting to last week’s SportsXtra analysis headlined ‘Height of Malawi Football Problem’. The analysis explored how disregard for height of players was hindering Malawi footballers’ prospect of signing for big European clubs. Kafwafwa stands at 1.9 metres.
Kafwafwa received a single call-up since Flames coach Kinnah Phiri took over the reigns in 2008 and has never played a competitive game since then.
“I respect what Kinnah has achieved with the Flames. It was a blessing in disguise being left out as I was able to devote my time to marketing diploma course. I am now aiming for a bachelor’s degree. I will need something to fall back on after quitting sooner or later. I am just happy to get recognition in a foreign land,†he said.
Kafwafwa signed for Holbaek FC in 2003 at K300 000 (about $1 200) from MDC. He left for Lolland Faster Alliance in 2007. He has two more years remaining on his recently extended contract. Another Europe-based player is Dan Chitsulo who plays for a third-tier German team.
