Contradicting statements have emerged on Green Harawa’s trials with Botswana Premier League side Extension Gunners who claim he is too short to be signed, whereas Silver Strikers have dismissed this latest reason.

Botswana football website Enole quoted Harawa’s manager Monty Gagomokgwa confirming that the player will return to Malawi if there is no club which is interested in him locally.

“Heish, we still have long way to go for professional. I was shocked to hear Gunners, saying my player is too short to play whereas Platinum Stars were following him, see with the likes of players such as Messi they are playing better than those who you can think them, whether they are tall or what,” Gagomokgwa is quoted as saying onwww.enole.co.bw/item/1265-no-deal-for-harawa-with-gunners .

But Silver general secretary Mike Tembo on Wednesday said Gunners were simply buying their time as the league was on break in Botswana.

“They have requested for an extension in the trials, since they are on off season. They will probably start talking when they see that they need the boy and time is not on their side, but as of now with off season, they have the luxury to talk all that,” said Tembo.

Last week, Silver chairperson Dr. McDonald Mafuta Mwale told The Nation that the Gunners were insisting on paying K4 million (about $10 526) as a transfer fee, while Silver were demanding K6 million, hence, the player may have to return.

The manager spotted Harawa while in Flames action during an international friendly match in Tanzania in June and has been on trials in Botswana. The player did not respond when contacted through a Facebook account.

Harawa is a highly rated attacker who inspired Silver to the Super League title retention last season. He also underwent trials at Kaizer Chiefs in 2010 as a replacement for Dave Banda whose club Red Lions were then not ready to release for the test.
