Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) has released names of 24 junior players that will represent the country during the Zone V1 Youth Championships slated for next Wednesday at the College of Medicine in Blantyre.

The players, who were identified through the regional qualifiers that were finalised last weekend, have been divided into four squads; the under-15 boys and girls teams and the under-18 boys and girls outfits that have six players each.

DAM vice-president Duncan Karim on Friday said the players are currently camping at the Malawi Posts Corporation Conference Centre in Blantyre where they will sharpen their skills ahead of the three-day international event.

All Southern African Development Community (Sadc) countries, including South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi will take part in the contest that will begin with a workshop on Tuesday.

“We are satisfied with the final squads,” said Karim. “During the selection exercises, the players showed outstanding skills and determination for success. We are banking on them to win medals during the competition.”

Head of the selection committee, John M’bwana, concurred with Karim that they have the cream of local darts players. The squads, which will have Dio Surtee Karim, Peter Kapatamoyo, Angella Zimba and Ken Lundu as managers, have

eight players from Mzuzu and Districts Darts League (MDDL), six players from Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) , five players from Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL) and four players from Zomba and Districts Darts League (ZDDL).
