Central Region Netball Champions Blue Eagles Sisters have played down the absence of their top goal shooter Joyce Mvula, who will miss the GOtv Tournament and the Presidential Cup as she will be out for 10 months.

Mvula, who was part of the Malawi Queens that went to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Scotland in July, has been given maternity leave, according to coach Sam Kanyenda.

“It is true she is an important players, but as a team, we never rely on individuals. She will be out for 10 months, but we will do well without her. Last season, we played the GOtv and the Presidential Cup tournament without her on disciplinary grounds. So, it’s not like all is lost,” said Kanyenda.

He said in attack, they have many options as the team has so much depth.

“We have Cecilia Mtukule, Mary Banya, Ruth Kalekeni and also Roselyn Zakeyo,” said Kanyenda.

The GOtv will be played on the September 19 and 10, while the Presidential Cup regional finals are scheduled to start on September 26 unless otherwise.

He said they are taking this year’s games seriously and do not want to play second fiddle to Blantyre teams.

“We want to win something for the Inspector General of Police Lot Dzonzi. We have been conducting preparations for these games. We will end Blantyre dominance of national titles,” said Kanyenda.

Civonets are also plotting victory so as to win the title after years of being in the shadows and the club’s assistant coach Whyt Mlilima has expressed confidence on turning the tables on Blantyre teams.
