Top four local golfers are expected to take part in a four-day Zambia Africa President’s Cup (APC) to be staged at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe from September 29 to October 2.

Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) president Gabriel Kambale said under-10 handicap golfers will be considered for selection.

With the unveiling of the staggering $400 000 (about K165 million), the AGC’s President Cup will be the richest ever golf tournament to be hosted on Zambian soil.

“It is going to be a lucrative tournament, bigger than the Zone VI tournament because it will attract top golfers from across Africa. It is being organised by the International Golf Federation,” said Kambale.

He said the four local golfers will be identified through a strokeplay tournament from today September 11 to September 14 at Lilongwe Golf Club with sponsorship from Airtel Malawi.

According to APC convener Charles Merrick, Airtel Malawi have stepped forward to sponsor prestigious prices for the qualifiers of the prestigious tournament.

Participants at the Zambia tournament are expected to arrive in Kitwe on September 28 and the following day will be special for training.

Malawi has over 30 golfers with a handicap of below 10, that includes Paul Chidale, Adam Sailesi, Victor Kachepatsonga and George Chisambo.
