Expedite Chapananga Road—chief
Senior Chief Chapananga of Chikwawa District has asked government to expedite construction of Chapanga Road, to be named Sidik Mia Highway, because the road is impassable.
Speaking during the State funeral of former Cabinet minister and sports analyst Moses Dossi at Lundu Primary School on Saturday, he said people are failing to go to the district headquarters or Mwanza.
He said “We are grateful that Dossi’s death brought ministers, deputy ministers and lawmakers to witness how our road is like.”
Nsanje and Chikwawa Socio -Economic Trust president King Norman Rudi said as an organisation spearheading development, their desire is to see the construction of the 72-kilometre road to Chapananga and East-Bank from Thabwa Trading Centre to Muona- Fatima in Nsanje North.
Ethel Chabe, 36, from Magwanyani Village said many women are delivering using local birth attendants as they cannot afford to pay K12 000 to Chikwawa Boma which is about 71 kilometers.
She said many people referred to the district hospital are die on their way due the mobility challenge as the road is impassable and worsens when it rains.
Minister of Lands Deus Gumba assured them that government will do everything to construct the road.
He said “We are privileged to see ourselves the status of the road and we are optimistic that the work will be done in time. When we talk of development we also talk of good road network.”
