Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu has said it is not surprising that Flames midfielder Robert Ng’ambi is among the best in the South African Premier Soccer League.

The FAM president said this at Ng’ambi’s wedding reception at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on Sunday night.

Ng’ambi wedded Jane Mitochi at Bethasida Pool Church earlier in the day.

“I am standing here a very proud man because of what Robert has done by having a holy matrimony.

“Ever since I became FAM president seven to eight years ago, we have never had any disciplinary issue with Robert and that explains why he has scaled lofty heights and is now considered one of the best players in South Africa,” said Nyamilandu.

He described the Platinum Stars midfield maestro as Malawi’s shining star in South Africa.

“Based on performance, Robert is probably the best player we have at the moment in South Africa. That has come about because he looks after himself properly.

“He is a magician whose brain and legs work together. He is Malawi’s kingpin in midfield and he has proven to us that in football there’s life and there’s a career,” he said.

The FAM president gave the couple a K50 000 (about $125) special wedding gift.

Platinum Stars chairperson Ratamang Nke showered praises on Ng’ambi, saying: “Robert has been critical, central and key to Platinum Stars’ success.

“I, therefore, take this opportunity to congratulate Robert. We are fortunate as a team to have a God-fearing player.”

The reception was colourful and the bridal party was led into the hall by former Flames captain and Ng’ambi’s ex-team mate Peter Mponda and his wife. Chiukepo Msowoya, Fischer Kondowe and Mapopa Musukwa were part of the bridal party.

Several current and former footballers, officials and coaches attended the ceremony.
