The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Saturday awarded 37 football coaches in Zomba with ‘C’ licence certificates.

The ceremony took place at Zomba Community Centre ground. The coaches underwent a two-week course in September and they have all passed with various grades in football medicine, theory and methods of coaching as well as laws of the game.

Coaches instructor Stewart Mbolembole presented the certificates to the successful candidates on behalf of FAM technical director John Kaputa.

Speaking before presenting the certificates, Mbolembole told the coaches to explore additional knowledge in order to succeed at all times.

“They say the sky is the limit, but what you should know is that football coaching requires continuous gathering of knowledge. We trained you in various aspects of the game, but it remains on your willpower to achieve more,” said Mbolembole.

He advised the coaches not to rush into coaching big football teams.

“We have had coaches who did that in the past, but right now they are frustrated as results could not come according to their expectation. So go for the grass-roots football and develop yourselves gradually for the bigger stage,” he said.

Thereafter, the coaches elected a committee for the district as follows: Richard Chipungu (chairperson), Christopher Jana (vice-chairperson), James Sawerengera (general secretary), Julius Magombo (vice-general secretary) and Amos Katundulu (treasurer). Members are: Collins Nkuna, McDonald Mtetemera, Elpha Mwanje, William Chiwanda and Christopher Kabwazi.
