Long at last, Flames coaches Young Chimodzi and Jack Chamangwana are relieved to have, for the first time since signing year-long contract extensions six months ago, felt what it means to get a monthly salary.

Chamangwana and Chimodzi  on Wednesday separately confirmed receiving their January salaries having signed contracts last July. The Ministry of Youth and Sports faults FAM, where the coaches are seconded, for delaying approval of the coaches’ contracts.

“It is just small issues that remain, but it is not worth complaining about, so I would say it is okay now,” said Chimodzi.

Last month, the ministry’s principal secretary Justin Saidi said the coaches’ names were now entered on the Human Resources Department payroll and that they would be paid from January followed by all arrears at the end of February.

FAM insisted that during the six months of no-pay, they gave the coaches some loan facilities while hoping to recover the money from government. The coaches’ contracts expire this July and Chamangwana insisted that renewal of the same was a matter for FAM and government.
