Flames jump two places up

Cosafa Plate 2015 champions have jumped two places up on the Coca-Cola Fifa ranking from position 97 to 95. World football governing body, Fifa released the ranking yesterday on its website.

Malawi, who in May won two games and also lost equal number of matches, is now rated fifth on Southern Africa ladder comprising 14 national teams, while being placed 25 out of 50 teams in Africa. Algeria lead Africa.

The Algerians lie 21 in the world on a ladder out of 209 national sides. This edition of the ranking’s best movers are Cosafa Cup 2015 bronze winners Madagascar. The Islanders are up by 37 places to position 113 in the world.

Positioned 68 in the world and 17th in Africa, Zambia lead the Cosafa football block. On the world table, Fifa World Cup champions Germany are still number one.

“This month, the biggest movers are to be found in the bottom half of the table, with Madagascar (113th, up 37) in particular benefiting from having recently played six matches and winning four to make the biggest gain of all 209 teams in the ranking. In addition to Belgium, three other teams – DR Congo (47th, up 2), Timor-Leste (146th, up 5) and Bhutan (159th, up 4) – are also in their highest-ever position in the ranking,” reads www.fifa.com/fifa-ranking-com

“A total of 44 matches were played in May, bringing the number of international “A” matches played so far in 2015 to 264. More than half of the matches (26) played in May took place in Africa.”
