Flames salute Malawians for moral support

Flames captain Joseph Kamwendo has paid tribute to the fans for their unwavering morale support during Wednesday’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Flames won the match 3-2 to move to bottom to third position of Group B.

“The fans made a big difference and cheered us on even when the chips appeared down at some point.

“Considering that it was a mid-week game and coming from a 2-0 loss to Mali, we expected a lukewarm reception from Malawians, but they did not abandon us,” said Kamwendo who was the architect of the first and second goals.

He added: “Thousands still came to the stadium and cheered their team on. That we were able to win the game, was mainly because they gave us all the support.” Kamwendo assured the nation that they will fight their lungs out to get to the Promised Land in Morocco come next year.
