After a three romance with the Puma brand, the Flames are set to start a new lease of life with Umbro this Saturday when they face Chad in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations second preliminary round first leg at Kamuzu Stadium.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu confirmed yesterday that an Umbro set of uniform has already been bought.

“We have approached Umbro to be our technical sponsor so they supply us uniform and football equipment in return for the replica jerseys business.

“We have made several advances and we are pursuing a lead with Umbro,” he said.

However, the FAM boss said the kit that the Flames will wear on Saturday—which is red in colour— is not tailor-designed with Flames colours.

“They will supply us with a tailor-made design, we couldn’t find a set of uniform that was complete with our colours, we bought the uniform off the shelf, but it is close to our colours.

“The tailor-made uniform takes the manufacturer three to four months and talks are at an advanced stage. We hope to seal the deal sometime in June,” he said.

FAM is courting Umbro following the mutual termination of its contract with Puma towards the end of last year.

Before Puma, the Flames technical sponsor was Adiddas.
