Support staff of the Judiciary have called off a strike they were staging to press for implementation of a new housing scheme which left them out.

Spokesperson for the support staff committee, Peter Magwanyama, said in an interview they decided to end the strike after management assured them that their grievances would be implemented alongside those of judges and magistrates.

“We have been assured that what we wanted would be implemented, as such, we feel that there is no need to continue with the strike,” said Magwanyama.

Asked why the Judiciary ignored support staff when negotiating for the new housing scheme, Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal, Joseph Chigona, said they were not left out but that theirs (support staff) was an internal matter.

The staff went on strike last Friday following a breakdown in discussions between their representatives and the internal committee which reviews conditions of service for the Judiciary.
