One of the powerhouse of gospel music in Malawi, George Mkandawire, who disappeared in a cloud of controversy, is back with a new album.

In recent years, the work of his crafty, strong and pleasant voice was only enjoyed through collaborations he has been involved with a couple of different artists.

So, some might be wondering what the musician with a golden voice has been up to?

“I am around, still in music. It is just that I was caught up with other equally important issues but I cannot quit music because it is my life,” Mkandawire told The Nation in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.

He said his fifth album will be out soon.

“In fact, the audio and DVD should be out at the same time. However, I cannot tell as to when because it all depends on people who are helping me out,” explained Mkandawire.

According to the artist, the recording of the album, which he started working on in 2012 is done.

Said the artist: “What I am working on now is the completion of videos. The album, titled Misonzi, will have tracks like Maloto Anga and Omama and has been recorded at four different studios including Nyimbo Studio, Ralph Records and in South Africa. It will feature songs to suit everybody.”

He added: “So to my fans I say, it’s been long but thanks for the patience. Just hang on a bit and soon I will be back.”

Those that have been closely following the artist know that he has been involved with other musicians.

“I have done a lot of collaborations with many people including Great Angels, Piksy and Armstrong before he became a born again. So for others, I have not been completely out,” he said.

His other albums of include Nthawi, Themba, Ulendo and Pemphero.
