Do you doubt that a bad beginning makes a good ending? Put Malawi’s Second to Breathe hitmaker Aemo E’face first on your list.

From being rejected on 2007 Pop Idols in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre, to having none of his music on his home soil, it seems there is nothing to stop the Malawian rapper, singer and songwriter from joining the elite league in South Africa.

Born Amos Mazinyane, E’face, 25, continues to make gains in his quest for stardom after tasting Channel O and MTV spotlight on the wings of the single Midnight Train to Jozi from his debut album released under Faith Works labels.

On Monday, he announced yet another feat—he has signed a lucrative deal with Waka Entertainment which is owned by A-list celebrity Rosie Motene.

A registered trademark in her country, Motene is an actress, TV presenter, film producer and media trainer who featured on the SABC soap Generations and presented M-Net’s Studio 53. She made her movie debut as a receptionist in the award-winning Hotel Rwanda and now has her fingerprints all over South Africa’s showbiz culture.

In an interview on Wednesday, E’face said he is excited to work with the versatile diva because she is not promising a song for his talent.

“The good thing about Waka Entertainment is that I am not just signed as their artist, but they have given me the post of music director in charge of talent recruitment,” he said.

He disclosed that he has already brought aboard Timve Baseline poster face Pempho Kafoteka and will be working with his Papaya song mate Sonye when he is on holiday.

He reckons Motene’s film production and casting agency will offer him acting roles, voice-overs and bookings.

“Being Malawian born, I just knew that dreams can come true. When they come this true, you just [wan’t to] pinch yourself to see if you are awake,” he said.

Waka’s latest movies include Man on the Ground, starring Hakeem Kazeem and directed by Motene.

Motene is part of the One Billion Raising which calls on women to stand up against rape and gender-based violence.
