With four games to wind up the season, Hungry Lions have won promotion to the Chipiku Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Premier Division. The league is sponsored to the tune of K6 million.

Hungry Lions lead on 83 points following their 2-0 victory against Mitundu on Sunday. The previous day they lost 3-1 to Chitedze United.

Hungry Lions’ closest rivals Area 12 Stars have 79 points.

Coach Grant Kalilombe said: “I am glad that we have made it, but it will be sweeter if we win the Division One title. We have four games to go and we need to win all to be on the safe side. It is a tough league and there is so much competition,” said Kalilombe.

Besides topping the log table, Lions’ marksman Jaffalie Ayami is leading the scorers sheet with 39 goals.

In the Premier Division, Dedza Young Soccer Stars still lead on 65 points. They are eight points ahead of second-placed Support Battalion.

Dedza coach, Millias Jegwa Pofera, insisted that they want to play in the Super League next season.

Meanwhile, Maicc FC of Mponela, Dowa are still warming the bench in the relegation. They lie third from the bottom in the 20-member league following their 2-0 loss to Mchinji Boma Stars on Sunday. Maicc have 29 points from 26 games.

Maicc general secretary, Chris Diasi, however, remained optimistic that they can turn the tables around and remain in the league.
