Injuries could stand in the way of TNM Super League leading scorer Ishmael Thindwa’s Golden Boot Award chase.

Thindwa has missed several Epac FC games after picking a knee injury when playing against Evirom a few weeks ago.

The 2011 top scorer on Thursday expressed hope to bounce back when they welcome Azam Tigers in Lilongwe on Sunday.

“I expect to return to action this weekend, but I am not fully fit; hence, I do not expect much from myself. Last season I scored 16 goals and there is no reason to rule me out of the contest. There are seven games to go,” he insisted.

Thindwa has scored 12 goals, but Deus Nkutu of Moyale has moved to within two goals of catching up with the Epac man after scoring 10.

Mafco’s Calista Kalinda increased his tally to nine goals when they whacked Mzuzu United 6-1. Kumbukani Mwambene of Red Lions is also third on nine goals.

Local strikers have over the last seven years failed to get past the 18-goal mark which the likes of Ganizani Malunga (Bakili Bullets) and Aggrey Kanyenda (MTL Wanderers) used to hit.
